The Boogyman
Real Name: Douglas M. Carmody
AKA: The Bogey Man; The Boogy-Man; The Bogey-Man (pretty much anyway you can spell it)
First Appearance: Power Pack 2
Died in: Power Pack 43
What's His Problem? Basically? He's a bigot who loathes mutants in general and, somehow mistaking them for mutants, Power Pack specifically. Carmody blames Power Pack for the loss of his career and life (which, actually, they are responsible for, but he's a greedy jerk and they were saving the planet at the time). He also hates the whole Power family because they have the love that Carmody lacked as a child. This display of compassion and affection is what drove him to leap off a building into a street of fire, taking his own life.
Abilities: After being turned into the demonic Boogyman, Carmody was a living white sponge of sorts. As well as having enhanced strength, he could absorb impacts and alter his form. Not to mention his ability to gross people out with drool and other bodily excretions!
Weapons: Carmody used two different sets of armor before he gained his demon powers. His first armor primarily consisted of a jet pack and a tranquilizer gun. His second suit of armor was supplied by the Right and was much more advanced. The Right also supplied him with "anti-power plastic" (I am not making this up) which prevented superhumans from using their powers. Sheesh! If the Right has anti-power plastic, howz cum they keep getting thrashed by the New Mutants and X-Factor? -- one puzzled editor Jeanne
Favorite Quote: Power Pack 14 - "I'm the Bogey-Man! And I eat evil little mutant freaks like you for breakfast!" (To which Jack replies: "Maybe that's how he got so fat!")
Heroes He Keeps Running Into: While primarily a Power Pack villain, Carmody ran into several other heroes on the way, including the Warriors Three and the New Mutants.
People Who Think He's Not So Bad: Well, no one really liked him a whole lot, but the Right (a human superiority group) found a use for him and the demon N'astirh thought that he made a tasty treat.
Most Despicable Act: Hmm...Probably the time he kidnapped the Power parents. He forced the kids to reveal their powers to their parents (which did major psychological damage), then dragged the parents all over an Inferno-ized New York City and almost killed them. A close second would be when he kidnapped (he certainly seems to like kidnapping) Rebecca Littlehale, a young mutant. Not only did he manipulate her own powers to capture her, he firebombed her house and was planning to sell her to a demon.
