U.S. WAR MACHINE vol. 2 #5

(December 2001) "Book 1: Chapter 5." Story: Chuck Austen. Art: Chuck Austen, Wild and Wooly Press and NIC Entertainment. Layout: Victor Lopez.

The mystery of Darkhawk continues! Rhodes inquires if he can use the former vigilante in his WM team -- and Fury indicates "it's possible." Dum Dum Dugan then tells Jim there's another team member -- one Sheva Josephs (see vol. 1 War Machine for what the "real" Marvel Universe Sheva was like). ATTENTION KIDDIES! Our first glimpse of Ms. Joseph is totally in the nude! Later, the WM team is suited up and ready for testing (and Rhodey can't get the naked image of Sheva out of his head!). Very cool tit-for-tat between Jim and Parnell about what it means "to be black."

Hube's Recommendation: USWM patches!
TJ's Response: Austen impresses with his devotion to character development. Rather than simply write a 'James Rhodes swears and shoots people' 12-issue bore-fest, he develops the people that are central to the story. The series overall to this point has been both a good read and eye-candy.

TJ's Recommendation: 4 USWM patches!
