As Iron Man is ties with wires to a giant disc, the Mandarin tells of his upbringing. His father was a descendant of Genghis Kahn and his mother a high born Englishwoman. When he was born, an idol fell and killed his father. When his mother was told, she died in grief. He was taken by his father's sister, his aunt. When she sought to harm him, a chandelier fell showing she was not to harm him or leave his side. She, cheated out of the fortune, spent all the money on teaching the child science and villainy, to hate the world. When they ran out of money, the government forced them out, and his aunt died the next day. The Mandarin penniless went to the Valley of the Spirits where he discovered an alien space ship. He uncovers the flight log and hears the pilot's voice in his head, Axonn-Karr, of the planet Maklu-4 as he recounted his adventures coming to Earth. His form looked like a dragon to the people of Earth, and they wounded him. He went to a cave in this mountain and died there. The Mandarin found all the secrets of the craft and went to an abandoned caste in the Valley of Spirits. This became his new home now with the power of the star ship, ten rings, each with its own unique power. Iron Man begins to spin to his death as the Mandarin tries to start World War III. Iron Man's glove pops a diamond edge out of his gauntlet and begins to cut the titanium cords and recharge his armor as he spins. Iron Man breaks free and through a wall. Iron Man seeks the Mandarin with his Solar Scanner Beam. He finds the missile as it is launched. He uses suction devices to attach himself and then uses a distorter to reverse course. Iron Man stops the Mandarin's craft and battles each of his rings with his own devices until the Communist Chinese attack the Mandarin. He flees back to his castle, and Iron Man catches a ride back home on a passing jet.
