Iron Man gets back to America in New York to a parade, but he leaves it because of his grief for Happy Hogan. Pepper has a lot of disgust for Tony Stark not being around. Iron Man is celebrated, and Tony is hated, but they are one and the same. The reporters are trying to find out who Iron Man really is when the Countess is still mad about being stood up by Tony Stark. She bribes and calls in favors to find the hideout of the Mad Thinker. He sends the giant Awesome Android (that can think built based on plans stolen from Reed Richards) to capture Tony Stark. Pepper calls the guards and Senator Byrd is notified Stark is missing, who wants Iron Man's armor to be used and studied by the U.S. government. As Tony is captured by the Thinker at the expense of the Countess, the Thinker tries to open the attaché case of Tony Stark and triggers sleeping gas as it is coded to Tony Stark's fingerprints alone. Tony dons the armor and then the android comes after him. He takes the shaped and consistency of Iron Man's armor and begins to beat him. Then the Thinker floods Iron Man with power draining rays. But, Iron Man invented a reflective mist. The rays then strike the Awesome Android and deactivate him. As the Thinker reaches for his control panel, Iron Man fires sticky rockets that blow the panel to bits. Iron Man saves the Thinker and the Countess as everything explodes. Tony goes back to the office where Pepper says Happy is in trouble at the hospital. Tony goes to his office.
