The Invisible Woman
Real name: Sue Richards or, if you're old enough, Sue Storm.
Sue vanishes AKA: The Invisible Girl. Malice. And, again if you're old enough, That Annoying Character Who Faints A Lot And Whines Even More.
First appearance: Fantastic Four 1
Typical comment, the old Sue:"I'm sick of adventure and peril! I just want to set up housekeeping as Mrs. Reed Richards--I want to be involved with supermarkets--instead of supervillians!" (Fantastic Four 65)
sue&franklin Typical comment, the new Sue: "I don't need your protection, Reed! Move out of my way!" (Fantastic Four 376)
Favorite quote: "We of the Fantastic Four did not choose to become super heroes. We are just ordinary people who fate selected to be made more than human." (Fantastic Four 245, during a television interview.)
Team affiliation: Sue is a founding member of the Fantastic Four, and has been an Avenger. (This was around Avengers 300, when everyone in the Marvel Universe was a member of the Avengers). Don't ask about Namor. The answer is, no one knows for sure.
Powers: The ability to turn herself and objects around her invisible, hence the name. She can generate a force field for protection, which she also uses to manipulate objects. The recent suggestion that she derives her abilities by tapping into another dimension is probably just a bogus attempt to rationalize her powers. (Ah, for the good ol' days when you could say "She was bombarded by cosmic rays" and leave it at that...)
Favorite Storyline: Fantastic Four 245, where Sue began the journey that would lead to her becoming the Invisible Woman .
Least favorite storyline: Ah, geez; got an hour? Writing a good Sue Richards is difficult, as many writers have found to their cost. Singling out one bad story from all the bad stories Sue's been inflicted with is way beyond the scope of this little page.
