Featuring the following heroine!

Shriek

AKA: Sandra Deel in Maximum Carnage, Frances Louise Barrison in the Shrieking. No reason was ever given for the name switch (lack of editorial communication, though, would be my guess).

First appearance: Spider-Man Unlimited #1, in the first installment of Maximum Carnage.

Favorite quote: "Oh, my gosh! I'm talking to myself like some comic book character! I really must be nuts!" (Spider-Man 37)

Team affiliation: Shriek, her "husband" Carnage, her "son" Carrion and other members of her twisted extended family were responsible for several hundred deaths during Maximum Carnage. Before becoming Shriek, she was a hard-rock groupie and roadie who dealt drugs on the side.

Powers: Sandra/Frances was not the most stable of individuals before she was caught in one of Cloak and Dagger's anti-drug vendettas. After being subjected to Cloak's Darkness, she became completely unhinged, and was able to fully access her sonic capabilities for the first time. It is unclear if she had some form of her powers before she encountered Cloak, if they developed as a result of Cloak's influence, or if they were a side-effect of drug use. As well as controlling sonic bursts, Shriek can act as a psychic conduit, amplifying hidden fears and causing people to act upon those fears. During Maximum Carnage, this ability resulted in localized riots, and proved capable of affecting someone as strong-minded and self-aware as Iron Fist. Her psychic manipulation may have been one of the factors that pushed Peter Parker into rejecting his civilian identity and becoming "The Spider."

Favorite Storyline: "The Shrieking" in Amazing Spider-Man 391-393, where whatever-her-name-is decided Spider-Man had the potential to become an appropriate father for her "son," Carrion. (Brrrr! Now there's a creepy thought...)

Least favorite storyline: One of the advantages of being a fairly recent character is that Shriek hasn't gotten around to having a real clunker of a story yet. Although I'm a bit nervous about the incubating-the-Carrion-virus-as-if-it's-a-child storyline set up in Spectacular Spider-Man 223. That has the potential to be either verrrrry disturbing or verrrrry silly...
