Warren Worthington III, born into a powerful and wealthy family, found he was born a mutant. He started sprouting wings from his back. He hid this gift with large clothes and coats, but later would act as an "Avenging Angel" helping defend innocent people from street criminals. Professor Xavier helped Warren understand and control his powers as he joined the original group of X-men.
Known as the High Flying Angel, Warren can fly at great speed and great heights. His bones are hollow, he can see and breath at great speeds. His endurance is great as well as his eyesight and agility in the air.
Always a positive person, the Angel's wings were damaged in a fight defending the Morlocks (a group of mutants whose powers are shocking, distasteful, or inappropriate for open society) in the tunnels under New York city. His wings became infected and had to be amputated. Warren was lost without his wings and even contemplated suicide. Apocalypse took advantage of the depression and brain washed Warren into becoming his Death Angel with metal wings grafted to his body. The X-men rescued Warren and brought him to his senses. He became Archangel and served again with the X-men. Recently after healing from a battle with Sabretooth, Warren discovered his wings had been growing back and the metal wings fell off.
Warren has discovered that he can access the metallic wings at will.
