Tales of Suspense 39 was the first appearance of Iron Man.
Tales of Suspense 16 was the first armored person that was controlled from within and was sealed from radiation and waterproof. The primary character was a criminal who developed an illness and was dying. These both were drawn by Jack Kirby and Don Heck. Some call it a prototype story for Iron Man because of the similarities in some of the story ideas.
